The following types of products may not be sold on TikTok Shop.
  • Prohibited products are products whose sale is banned in Japan.
  • Unsupported products are products that cannot be sold on our platform. Although you may have the necessary qualifications to sell these products in Japan, we do not support their sale on our platform presently.
    • Unsupported by Policy: These products are permanently not allowed and will not be supported for sale on our platform.
    • Temporarily Unsupported: These products are currently not allowed but have the potential to be opened for sale in the future, depending on regulatory changes, platform policy updates, or other considerations.

Prohibited

Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity (Prohibited)

DescriptionExamples
  • Content featuring adult nudity, sexually explicit imagery, or actions that violate community standards of decency.
  • Pornographic materials such as R18+ or unrated adult films, games, anime, and comics.
Sexually explicit content depicting illegal, non-consensual acts, or involving minors.

Animal and Animal-Related Products (Prohibited)

  • Items involving endangered or protected animals, animal parts, or products derived from them, as well as those promoting animal cruelty.
  • Ivory, tiger skins, and products derived from rhinos or orangutans.
  • Cockfighting knives and traps used for illegal animal capture.

Coins, Cash, Gift Cards, and Financial Products (Prohibited)

  • Items related to financial instruments, unregulated currencies, and counterfeit monetary products.

Virtual currencies like Bitcoin, unauthorized money transfers, and pyramid schemes.

Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) (Prohibited)

  • Content depicting minors (<18 years old) in nudity, sexually suggestive behavior, or exploitative actions.
  • Images, videos, or text promoting child exploitation.

Discriminatory and Offensive Products (Prohibited)

  • Items with racist symbols, religious intolerance, or targeting individuals based on gender or sexual orientation.
  • Books glorifying individuals guilty of hate crimes.

Firearms, Ammunition, and Weapons (Prohibited)

Gambling-Related Products (Prohibited)

Government/Regulator Warned Products (Prohibited)

  • Items that have been flagged or prohibited by government or regulatory bodies, often subject to mandatory takedowns due to safety, legal, or compliance concerns.
  • Products flagged or recalled by regulatory bodies due to safety concerns, such as malfunctioning electronics or unsafe medical devices

Hazardous and Dangerous Items (Prohibited)

  • Hemp seed oil, body lotions, and food items.
  • Tutorials for drug preparation.

Medicines and Supplements (Prohibited)

  • Medicines and supplements, including household and non-household products, unauthorized medications for human or animal use, which may violate health and safety regulations.
  • Prescription Drugs (Prohibited), which require a doctor's prescription and are intended for specific medical conditions. Examples include antibiotics, anti-hypertensive drugs, insulin for diabetes, etc.
  • Vaccines (Prohibited) such as Influenza vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines, Measles and Rubella vaccines, etc.
  • Investigational Drugs (Prohibited) which are under clinical development and testing.
  • Supplements with banned substances (Prohibited), such as Sibutramine (a weight-loss drug linked to cardiovascular issues), Anabolic steroids or prohormones used in muscle-building supplements, etc.

Mislabeled Goods & Improper Packaging (Prohibited)

  • Products that are sold without the correct original packaging, often due to repackaging or failure to meet labeling and packaging standards required by law.
  • Food items sold without ingredient lists, allergen warnings, or expiration dates.
  • Repackaged items into smaller units/size.

Misleading Functionality and Effect (Prohibited)

Unsafe Food Products (Prohibited)

  • Food products that pose health risks, fail to meet safety regulations, or are otherwise deemed unsafe are prohibited on TikTok Shop.

  • Food products that lack proper labeling under Japanese regulations.

  • Over-the-Counter Drugs, which can be purchased without a prescription for minor health issues. Examples include strong painkillers, anti-inflammatory medications, cold medications, antidiarrheals, etc.
  • Herbal Medicines/ Kampo Medicines, which are traditional Japanese medicines derived from natural sources, often used alongside modern treatments. Examples include Kakkonto (for colds), Yokukansan (for anxiety and insomnia), etc.
  • Alternative medication & Treatment, such as Acupuncture, Alternative therapy products, etc.
  • Pet Medication, such as Flea & Tick treatment, etc

  • Products that are not new, are used, defective, or damaged.
  • This category excludes pre-owned trading cards & luxury products (classified as restricted products) and is currently in a limited pilot phase, available only to invited sellers—listings from non-invited sellers are not permitted.
  • Used electronics with hidden defects (e.g., broken screens, battery issues).
  • Furniture with undisclosed damages (e.g., pest infestations, broken joints).
  • Defective home appliances (e.g., microwaves with exposed wiring).
Second-hand clothing or accessories sold without clear mention of wear and tear (e.g., stains, odors).

What happens if I breach these guidelines?

If you are found to violate these guidelines, you may have enforcement actions taken against your account. You should note that repeated offenses will result in more significant penalties.
